Secondary Glazing for Condensation

Secondary Glazing can be a very effective solution to dramatically reduce Condensation and often eliminate it entirely.

The air trapped between the original window glass and the secondary glazing glass allows a very gradual balancing of the internal and external temperatures and thus avoids condensation forming on any of the glass surfaces.

Trickle ventilation can also be integrally fitted to the Secondary Glazing Units to adjust the amount of ventilation in the cavity to achieve the best balance.

When fitting Secondary Glazing it is best not to seal or draught proof the existing windows because this actually promotes the formation of condensation and can be very detrimental, causing condensation to form and lay on the woodwork promoting rot and mould growth.

In fact, sealing or draught proofing the existing windows makes very little difference to either the heat insulation or noise reduction that the Secondary Glazing will provide.

As well as helping with the Condensation problem, the Secondary Glazing will provide really excellent Thermal and Noise Insulation.

Thermal Insulation

By increasing the basic 4mm float glass specification to a 4mm Low "E" glass a "U" (Thermal) Value of between 1.8 and 1.9 can be achieved, actually improving upon the Building Regulations Standard of 2.0 for a sealed unit double glazed replacement window!

Noise Insulation

Where Noise is also a problem, we can evaluate the nuisance level and specify a 6mm float glass, a laminated glass or for very severe Noise, a 6.4mm laminated Acoustic glass, which will virtually double the Noise Reduction being provided by the primary window.

Secondary Glazing is suitable for all types of windows and doors & is virtually invisible once installed.

See our Installations Gallery - all of the featured windows actually have Secondary Glazing fitted to them.
